Bathroom and shower rooms are prone to mold growth as they exposed to moisture most of the times. So, what I usually do after each shower is to splash clean water onto the bathroom walls to remove soapy residues. These residues if not removed will become the mail food source for mold.

I will also keep a bottle of diluted white vinegar in the bathroom and make sure to spray the vinegar solution onto the bathroom walls and shower curtain after each shower. This helps to prevent mold growth and disinfect at the same time. For the bathroom floor, I mop with diluted white vinegar too once in a week.

To remove mold from the corners of bathtubs and showers, I use baking soda and vinegar paste as demonstrated in the video below. Instead of spraying bleach water, I use vinegar water to prevent mold from growing back. It produces the same results too and it is greener to use vinegar for mold removal at home.

The best way to get rid of mold smell in a car is to lighten the moldy spot with a degreaser cleaner. In case you do not have any degreaser cleaner at hand, try vinegar for mold removal as an alternative. Dilute the white vinegar in the ratio of 1:1, or use it undiluted to treat stubborn mold stains.

Use a sturdy brush to brush off the moldy spots in circular motion, when the molds are loosen up, wipe off with a damp cloth. Replace the cloth once it is soiled with molds, you do not want the molds that soil the cloth to contaminate other areas in your car.

After this is done, use an enzyme-based cleaner to remove the moldy odor. Follow the same procedure above, brush in circular motion and wipe off using the clean part of the damp cloth. You can see that molds and mildews are actually lifted onto the cloth.

Let the windows of your car down a little bit to allow the treated areas to dry completely.
After it is dried, vacuum it over a couple more times to make sure mold spores are removed completely.

To remove mold from leather materials, you need to use mild detergent like dish detergent or mild hand soap. Do not use any heavy-duty detergent to clean mold on leathers as this will dry out the leathers.

If your furniture has lots of molds, clean them outdoor. Remember to put on goggles and face mask to protect yourself from the hazardous mold spores. These tiny particles are very harmful to your lungs and they can trigger respiratory allergies like coughing or even asthma in people who are sensitive to molds.

To implement leather mold removal, first you need to prepare a mild soap solution with either hand soap or dish detergent and mix with water. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently brush off the mold in circular motion. Next, use a damp cloth to wipe off the soap solution. You may apply a dab of white vinegar to help disinfect the mold stain.

Once the mold is completely removed from the leather, you need to use leather conditioner to restore the moisture. Use a clean cloth and apply some leather conditioner onto the spot. Rub gently until the conditioner is fully absorbed by the leather.

The following video demonstrates on how to remove mold from a leather jacket:

Is vinegar strong enough to kill mold? Yes, but to some extent. The natural acidic feature of vinegar makes it possible to kill about 80% of the mold species. Therefore, vinegar is always a good choice when it comes to dealing with minor mold infestation at home.

However, regular cleaning with vinegar is essential to guarantee a mold-free environment. You can consider mopping the floors with vinegar on a weekly basis. Rinsing the bathroom walls with vinegar solution every alternate day does help in preventing mold.

How to remove and kill mold with vinegar

1. Make sure you use only white fermented vinegar to kill mold, other synthetic acetic acids will not do the job.

2. Fill a spray bottle with undiluted white vinegar.

3. Spray vinegar onto mold infested surfaces and in places where mold regularly grows, such as shower curtains, grout of tiles, walls, sealing underneath faucets, edges and outside of the bathtub, counter top, etc.

4. Leave the vinegar to sit for a minimum of 30 minutes for the acid to kill the mold.

5. Wipe cleans the surfaces with water and let it dry completely. Remember moisture is the cause for mold growth.

6. Use a solution of vinegar and water to mop floor regularly. This helps to kill any mold residues.

7. To remove mold from clothing and fabric materials, soak them with the solution of vinegar and water and leave overnight without adding any laundry detergent.

8. Rinse off the vinegar water and wash with normal laundry detergent and warm water. This shall kill all traces of mold.

Vinegar is a safe product to use for mold removal; as it is biodegradable and edible. It does not leave nasty residue like bleach does. You can even use vinegar to kill molds in kitchen. Spray vinegar onto the counter tops, dish drainer, cutting board will keep mold at bay.

One downside to using vinegar as mold cleaner is that you need to practically repeat the above tasks every other day to ensure the surfaces stay mold-free. It is always a good idea to keep a spray bottle of vinegar in the bathroom. Give a quick spray on the shower curtains, tiles, basin, bathtub and walls after the shower. This helps minimize the chances of mold growing in your bathroom.
