Yes, here are a few ways to remove mold from cooking pots, pans, cups, kettle and other cookware / culinary items:

1. Clean mold with baking soda

- Mix 1 part baking soda to 1 part water
- Scrub off the mold with this baking soda solution
- Rinse well with fresh water
- Wash with normal dish detergent and rinse well
- Fill the pot with water and bring it to boil for at least 15 minutes to disinfect and kill any mold residues

2. Remove mildew off kettle with salt and vinegar paste

- Mix 1/2 cup of table salt and white vinegar to create a paste
- Wipe the paste over the entire interior of the kettle and let it to sit for at least 10 minutes
- Add water to the kettle and bring it to boil for about 15 minutes
- Drain the solution entirely
- Fill with clear water again and then drain. Do this few more times until the kettle is clean from salt and vinegar.

3. White vinegar to clean mold off cookware

- Fill the mold contaminated cookware with vinegar mixed with water in equal part
- You may use undiluted white vinegar if the molds are stubborn
- Leave the cookware to soak for overnight
- Drain the vinegar solution
- Wash with regular dish detergent and rinse well
- Fill the cookware with clear water and bring it to boil for at least 15 minutes to disinfect and kill the mold residues

Note:

1. For stainless steel cookware, fill the pot / pan with oil instead and bring it to boil to disinfect and kill the mold residues.

2. You should only use edible products when cleaning cooking utensils. Bleach is not recommended.

In the video above, bleach is used to clean and kill mold. I would not recommend using bleach to clean / kill mold as bleach would release harmful fumes which are equally bad for your health. White vinegar is a safer alternative to bleach for cleaning mold and mildew.

To clean and kill mold with white vinegar, mix 1 part of white vinegar to 1 part of water and spray the solution onto the problem spots. You may use undiluted vinegar solution to treat stubborn mold stains. Let the solution to sit for at least 15 minutes before scrubbing off with a mixture of Borax and white vinegar. Repeat this process until all the mold and mildew are gone. Rinse well with clean water or wipe clean using damp cloth if rinsing is not possible. Allow the areas to dry completely.

Molds nourish on the minerals and oil in the paint of the wood surface. This causes discoloration to the wood surface. Sometimes, they can eat into the paint film and penetrate to the underlying wood and destroy the structure.

Most of the times, using some mold or mildew resistant paints for outdoor wood surfaces can prevent this from happening. These paints are formulated with special chemicals to fight mold attack. You can get one of this paint from your local paint and hardware stores.

Bear in mind though, these mold-resistant paints are not suitable to be used on window sills, beds, playpens or wooden toys as the chemicals in the paint can be very hazardous to small children.

How to remove mold and mildew from wood

If you see molds or mildew start growing on wood surface, increase the air circulation and use heat to dry the wood as much as possible. Always keep in mind that stagnant air is as dangerous as stagnant water, it promotes mold growth. Regulate the ventilation to allow fresh air to flow in.

To clean mold and mildew from mildly infested wood materials:

1. Moisten the infected area with little plain water; this is to prevent the molds from becoming airborne when disturbed.
2. Scrub off the visible molds and mildew with mild alkali. You can use washing soda or trisodium phosphate; mix 10 tablespoons to a gallon of water. Alternatively, a mixture of borax and white vinegar works well too.
3. Wipe clean with a damp cloth if rinsing is not possible. Discard the cloth when it is soiled with mold and mildew. You will not want the soiled cloth to infect other areas of your house.
4. After the cleaning is done; spray a layer of white vinegar onto the wood surface and leave it without rinsing. This helps to disinfect and prevent future mold growth.
5. Allow the wood to dry completely in the sun if possible. Otherwise, use a blower or fan to help drying the surface.
6. Apply mold or mildew resistant paint.

If the molds have eaten through the paint or coating, you will need to remove all the paint or coating from the problem spots before cleaning the molds. Use undiluted vinegar to moisten the stained spot and let the solution to sit for at least 15 minutes before sanding down the paint / coating. Scrub off the mold with a stronger solution this time if necessary. Rinse well and allow the wood to dry thoroughly. Lastly spray a layer of undiluted white vinegar to help disinfect the area and prevent future mold growth.

I will also keep a bottle of diluted white vinegar in the bathroom and make sure to spray the vinegar solution onto the bathroom walls and shower curtain after each shower. This helps to prevent mold growth and disinfect at the same time. For the bathroom floor, I mop with diluted white vinegar too once in a week.

To remove mold from the corners of bathtubs and showers, I use baking soda and vinegar paste as demonstrated in the video below. Instead of spraying bleach water, I use vinegar water to prevent mold from growing back. It produces the same results too and it is greener to use vinegar for mold removal at home.

1. Leave the door opened after each wash

While tea tree oil is expensive, its broad-spectrum fungicide power seems to be able to kill almost all mold species. Tea tree oil is definitely a better alternative to bleach as it is natural and it does not produce harmful fumes that hurt the environment or the surrounding living beings.

Kill mold and mildew with tea tree oil

1. Mix 2 teaspoons of tea tree oil with 2 cups of water in a spray bottle.
2. Shake well to blend.
3. Spray the tea tree oil solution onto the problem areas such as moldy ceiling, musty rug, moldy shower curtain, bathroom tub, walls and floors.
4. Let the solution to stand, do not rinse with water.
5. It will take few days for the strong smell of tea tree oil to dissipate.

This tea tree oil spray works wonder in killing and preventing mold. It can also help to remove musty mold odor. I usually keep a bottle of this spray in the bathroom for regular cleaning. Spray tea tree oil solution regularly on the areas prone to mold and mildew, such as bathroom walls and shower curtain can help preventing mold and mildew.

Use a sturdy brush to brush off the moldy spots in circular motion, when the molds are loosen up, wipe off with a damp cloth. Replace the cloth once it is soiled with molds, you do not want the molds that soil the cloth to contaminate other areas in your car.

After this is done, use an enzyme-based cleaner to remove the moldy odor. Follow the same procedure above, brush in circular motion and wipe off using the clean part of the damp cloth. You can see that molds and mildews are actually lifted onto the cloth.

Let the windows of your car down a little bit to allow the treated areas to dry completely.
After it is dried, vacuum it over a couple more times to make sure mold spores are removed completely.
