Prevention of Mold Allergy

The best way for a person to rid themselves of a mold allergy is to limit your exposure to the molds that cause your reactions. This can easily be achieved by scrubbing the moldy surfaces. First, you take and use an antimicrobial cleaner. Then you wash the surfaces with bleach.

To further prevent mold allergy, you wash the surfaces with vinegar each week. This will help to ensure that the mold does not reoccur; thus ensuring that mold allergy does not rear its ugly head. Using an ionizing air purifier will also help in the prevention of mold allergy. The purifier removes mold spores from the air, thus reducing any respiratory problems associated with mold allergy.

These symptoms may or may not be caused by mold presence. But where mold is found in homes, the rate of these symptoms surfacing is high. If your children have eye irritations, ask whether they have been touching places with mold growing and whether they had subsequently rubbed their eyes without washing their hands first. And if you found your family constantly having cough or runny nose, check your home for mold existence.

Of course, there are other factors linked to the above symptoms, and they may not be associated with mold at all. But if you suspect that your health is being affected by mold, do see your doctor for confirmation.

Toxins :  ‘Toxigenic’ or ‘toxic molds’ create toxic substances when they grow in our homes. But the mold itself is not toxic. In actual fact it can produce toxins some of the time, and when it does, people inhale mold dust or get exposed to them through touch.
However, the toxin as a chemical only harm the surface of our bodies, not affecting the internal part. In rare cases where mold grows in our bodies, that is infection.

Infection :  Happens to a person with weak immune system. A mold called Aspergillus has very tiny spores and is frequently found floating in the air. Most people inhale them into their lungs and never faced any problems. Others may not be as lucky.

Another type of mold infection is the eye infection caused by one Fusarium species which can contaminate contact lens solution. Although not common, when such infection happens, the situation can be severe and blindness may result.

Two people standing near a moldy window in a room will react differently. One may feel stuffy and start to get a headache, while the other may feel nothing at all. This actually depends on their individual level of sensitivity to molds.

It is a well-known fact that there is differing sensitivities between healthy grown-ups compared to children, the elderly and the sick. The former obviously have robust immune system while the latter will react stronger to mold. This may or may not be the case but it is highly likely to happen.
